Locals band together to add bubbles of joy to children's Emergency Department

Sydney, Australia. 16 December 2008 - Directors of GLiNTECH a Sydney based IT services company and Maroubra locals, Desma and Dimitri Spyridopoulos, have rallied funds to contribute bubbles to the Emergency Department at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick. The bubbles will be included in goodie bags for children admitted to Emergency, to make their time in Hospital a little less stressful. The Hospital's Play and Recreational Therapy Department is currently trialling the distribution of up to 7000 goodie bags to children between about 4-10 years of age, and the rate of distribution will average about 280 bags a week.

Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation has gathered lots of fun and suitable items for the children from businesses like National Geographic, The $2 Dollar Shop, Colgate, BIG W and more.

"In this uncertain market, it is great to see that business owners and locals can still find some funds to set aside for a worthy cause. We wanted to donate something that would make an impact, albeit on a smaller budget. So we decided bubbles were the way to go", Desma explains.

The Spyridopoulos' joined forces with local businesses, including Balloon Saloon who helped source the bubbles. "The team at Balloon Saloon are so lovely and accommodating, they had no trouble helping us out".

Other local businesses who contributed include Southpoint Shopping Centre's KB Farm Chickens, Campbell's Meat and Catch Me Seafood's. "People who hear about what we are doing, want to know how to contribute," Desma says. "Lampros Katsidis, who runs KB Farm Chickens, has brought together his staff, friends and co-owners of stores in his centre and from KB Farm Chickens in North Rocks to make up the difference and to help us achieve the 7000 item target."

The Hospital has commenced distribution of the goodie bags and they have been well received.

Desma continues, "It makes me smile thinking that children are in emergency and the occasional stream of bubbles floats by to distract them for a brief moment".
